"Hi, Teach!" are the first words to greet brand new teacher Sylvia Barrett. At Calvin Coolidge High School, there's a special happiness in walking into the still-empty classroom and for the first time, writing her name on the blackboard. Students pour into the classroom cautious, testing, and challenging. Simultaneously, there's a blizzard of paperwork, office warnings, contradictory orders, and indecipherable instructions. Soon, Sylvia finds herself the most involved person in the school. She is at the start of a budding romance with a fellow teacher and a near war with a discipline-over-everything administrator. But, most of all, she is involved in the unexpected, sometimes heartbreaking, problems of her students. As the school year rages on, Sylvia find herself questioning her effectiveness in the classroom and considers changing her mind on a number of life decisions.
Performances are set for Thursday, March 31st, Friday, April 1st and Saturday April 2nd at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday, April 3rd show at 2:00 p.m. All performances will be held in the Wooster High School Performing Arts Center.
